Charles Ronald ?Ron? Bassett
ANADARKO - Funeral for Charles Ronald "Ron" Bassett, 88, Anadarko, was Monday, June 25, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, Anadarko, with the Rev. Felecia Hensley and the Rev. David Gardner officiating.
Burial was in Memory Lane Cemetery, Anadarko, under direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko.
Charles Ronald "Ron" Bassett was born March 13, 1930, to Tom and Marjorie Bassett in Skiatook.Tom and Marjorie soon moved to Anadarko to open a business and this is where Ron grew up. Ron attended school in Anadarko where he learned to played trombone in the band. He went on to OU where he played in the band as first chair for four years and earned a bachelor's degree in business. While attending OU, Ron was in ROTC and after graduation he began serving the Army by serving in Korea. When the war ended, 1st Lt. Bassett returned to Anadarko to work in the family business, Anadarko Auto Supply. After his father died, Ron owned and operated Anadarko Auto Supply until retirement in 1997.
Ron met his first wife Ruth Watson, on June 24, 1955, while attending his best friend's wedding. They married in 1956 and it lasted 42 years until Ruth passed away in 1998. Ron remained the eligible bachelor for several years and finally married the girl next door, Jean Anne McKee, in 2004. They remained happily married until her death in 2013.
Ron was on the board of directors for the First State Bank of Anadarko from 1983 to 2017. After his retirement in 1997 the board of directors became his "job"! He was a member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
Ron is survived by his daughters: Dena Lee, Debi Zerger and husband Doug, Teri Jean Cunningham and husband Jay; son, Rick McKee; and grandchildren: Jared, Josh, Josette, Jamie, Brad, Jon, Lance, Blake, Tyler, Verlon, Sophie, Travis and Danny.
