She was born April 25, 1959 in Shelbyville to Arthur Saunders and Lucy (Bassett) Saunders. She enjoyed cooking. Her greatest pleasure was being with her family. JoAnn is survived by her sons, Val Thurston II of Shelbyville, and Nathaniel Thurston of Fairland; her grandchildren, Aaron McDaniel, Val Thurston III, Korbin Thurston, and Theo Thurston; her sister, Janet Miller, her half-brother, Steve Teives, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Fred Saunders. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, June 18, 2021 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., at the funeral home with Reverend Beth Crouch officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery.
