William R. Bassett, 78, of Jersey Shore, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at his home on Joe's Run Road. He was born March 11, 1925, the son of the late Guy Bassett and Helen Meyers Farr. He is the husband of Agnes M. Smith Bassett.
He owned and operated the Shore Service Center for three years until 1987 and prior to that he worked at Kinley Suburu, Lycoming Creek Road.
He enjoyed collecting die-cast collectables and pictures of antique cars and he enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Donald L. of Jersey Shore and William H. of West Pittston, three daughters, Linda of Williamsport, Helen of Jersey Shore and Nicole of Cogan Station; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou Giesler of DuBoistown.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ned, Ted and Byron and a stepfather, Harry Farr.
There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m., with funeral services at 7 p.m., at the Allen and Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira Street, Williamsport.
Burial will be private at the Green Lawn Memorial Park.
