He was a World War II Navy veteran and a Korean War Army veteran, a member of the Rotary Club and a graduate of the University of Virginia. Mr. Bass, the husband of Muriel MacChesney Bass, also leaves two daughters, Margaret Ivy Smith of Memphis and Bruce MacChesney Bass Mish of Richmond, Va.; a stepson, Dominique Mantout of Dublin, Ireland, and two grandchildren.
