Robert Leon Bass
Robert Leon Bass II passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, September 19, 2023; and words cannot adequately express how deeply he will be missed. Though born in Charlottesville, Virginia, he spent the majority of his youth in Bristol, Virginia, graduating from Virginia High School in 1967. From there he went to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received a BA in Psychology in 1971. Leon held many positions in the Atlanta area and was an excellent acoustic guitar player, photographer and auto mechanic. When computers became mainstream, he was hooked and decided to change careers, enrolling in Georgia State where he earned his Masters in Math and Computer Science. Always a whiz at math, he found this profession suited him perfectly! He retired from Sales Technologies Co. In October of 1991, Leon married the love of his life, Jane Holmes Bass, and became the proud stepdad of two beautiful girls, whom he loved as his own. During his lifetime, Leon's hobbies included playing the guitar, motorcycle riding and racing, bike riding, and martial arts. He was also an avid reader, enjoying many types of
literature; a favorite being ?The Lord of the Rings? series. After retirement and the move from Atlanta to Bristol, he took up woodworking and produced many professional-quality pieces of furniture. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Phillips (Phil) Bass, MD, and Melva D. (Gene) Bass as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jane Holmes Bass; two step-daughters, Katie Bacon Turner (Roger) and Sallie Bacon (Brian); three grandchildren, Valentino, Felix, and Renzo Lupis; two sisters, Barbara Bass Harrison and Linda Jane Bass; one brother, Bill Bass (Alice); a niece, Tiffany Harrison; two nephews, Davey Harrison and Phillip Bass, and three grand nieces.
