Miss Bessie Bassett left Friday for Burlingame, Kansas, where she was called by the death of her uncle, Judge John R. Bassett, which occurred in that city Friday morning.

Bess Bassett Funeral Rites to be Thursday
Funeral services for Miss Bess Bassett, 84, former resident of Aledo, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 1958 at Reiser Funeral chapel, Aledo, with Rev. Howard Van Dyke, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Miss Bassett died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in Pitts Nursing Home Knoxville, where she recently was taken after spending several weeks in St. Mary's Hospital, Galesburg. She had been a resident of the Illinois PEO home in Knoxville for the last five years, but spent the rest of her life in the Aledo community. She was born in Aledo, Feb. 13, 1874, a daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. I.N. Bassett of Aledo. Her father was one of the pioneer attorneys of Western Illinois and was widely known as a jurist and later as a Mercer county historian. Miss Bassett graduated from Aledo schools and Knox college, Galesburg. For many years she worked as a practical nurse and at one time she was associated with two sisters in the operation of a millinery store in Aledo. She was a member of the first Prebyterian church, Aledo, the Women's Association of the church, and Chapter H., PEO sisterhood. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews; Albert Adams, Chicago; Miss Emily Augusta Adams, Detroit, MI; Miss Ruth Bassett, Kent, Wash.; Frank Bassett, Los Angeles, Calif.; Vesta Bassett Foster, New London, Conn.; Ellen Bassett Swenson, Whiting, Ind.; Isla Adams Whittier, Pompano Beach, Florida. There was born to our second marriage, four children. The first, Roy Hastings, born Dec 13, 1863, died March 1878. Bertie, born March 26th died June 26th 1870. Victor Hugo Born May 7th 1871, Bessie born Feb 13th 1874.
My second wife, who was a widow, had one child, Clara Belle Yerty, who was born April 6th 1854 and lived with us until August 13th 1889 when she was married to A.J. Ingmire and still lives in Aledo.
