James Bassett, 74
Escondido - James Edgar Bassett, 74, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005.
Born Nov. 20, 1930, in Highland Park, in Los Angeles, Calif., he lived in San Marcos since the 1940's. He retired from Vallecitos Water District after ten years as an inspector. He worked for Webb Bros. and Webb Pump and Supply for eleven years. He was a pipeline foreman for W.L. Wettig Construction Co. for seventeen years. He attended the old Richland School in San Marcos, and graduated from Escondido High School, in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Hope Wesleyan Church of Escondido and Palomar Christian Church in San Marcos. He was a member of the American Legion of Escondido and the Las Ramadas Camping Club of Escondido.
Mr. Bassett was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Alice L. Bassett; brother Robert Crass; and sisters Lucille Buckwalter and Alamae Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shelia Raw Lewis Bassett; son and daughter-in-law James L. and Tina Bassett of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Melody L. and Kevin Seekins of Escondido; sister Mamie Smith of Escondido; grandchildren Justin, Kristina, Renee, and Jessica; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, Aug. 26, at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido with the Rev. Floyd McCallum officiating.
