      GALVESTON – Oliver Howard Bassett, 87, passed away on Sunday, October
      31, 1999, at a hospital in Galveston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held
      at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 3, 1999, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
      Galveston with Fr. Frank Fabj, as celebrant. Burial will follow services
      Wednesday at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock. Deacon Tom Hunter
      will hold a vigil for Mr. Bassett at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 1999,
      followed by the rosary, in the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. Mr.
      Bassett’s family will be receiving friends at the funeral home, Tuesday
      evening after 5 p.m.
      Mr. Bassett was born on Galveston Island on September 15, 1912, and
      remained here on the island to make his home for his wife and family. For many
      years, Mr. Bassett was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 787. He not
      only dedicated himself to his brother knights, but also to his family. He was
      a very loving, very caring and devoted person who gave so freely of himself.
      The love shared between he and his family was very deep, and he will be so
      very missed by each of them.
      Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bassett, he leaves behind with
      cherished memories, his only daughter, Mary Koblasz and husband, Arthur of
      Atlanta, Georgia; and his four grandsons, Sean McCutchen and wife, Maureen
      Cusick McCutche, Ian McCutchen and wife, Jennifer McCutchen, Joseph Koblasz
      and Gary Koblasz. Also saddened by this loss are Mr. Bassett’s niece Josephine
      Schattel and husband, Emil and also his nephew, Leo Morovich and wife, Doris.
      He leaves behind fond memories for those who knew him and loved him. He will
      be thought of often.
      Pallbearers will be Mr. Bassett’s grandsons, Sean McCutchen, Ian
      McCutchen, Joseph Koblasz and Gary Koblasz and also his son-in-law, Arthur

      Wedding Solemnized

      The wedding of Miss Margaret Morovich, daughter of George Morovich, to
      Oliver Howard Bassett was solemnized on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock at
      Sacred Heart Church with Rev. M.S. Chataignon officiating, according to
      announcements made yesterday.
      The bride who was given in marriage by her father was gown
      frock of white crepe with which she wore matching accessories. She carried an
      arm bouquet of white carnations in shower effect.
      Mrs. Frank Termint, cousin of the bride, was matron of honor, and was
      attired in an ensemble of shell pink. Her bouquet was of a deeper shade of pink
      carnations. The bridesmaid, Miss Viola Boddeker, chose a gown of powder blue
      and carried pink carnations.
      William Kennedy was groomsman.
      Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served at the home of
      the bride’s father by her aunts, Mrs. H.J. Audie and Mrs. T. Mantze
      A reception was held at 8 o’clock that evening at the home. The
      bride’s table was laid with a lace cloth and centered with a three-tier
      wedding cake. Many guests attended the event.
      Mr. and Mrs. Bassett will make their home at 3720 Broadway.
