Harold N. Bassett - FBI Official
Harold N. Bassett, 70, who retired in 1979 as assistant director of the FBI records management division, died of cancer September 29 at his Falls Church home. He moved to Northern Virginia about 35 years ago. Mr. Bassett began his 29 year career with the FBI as a special agent on the West Coast. He later was a personnel officer, executve assistant to the associate director and assistant director of inspection and administrative services divisions.
Mr. Bassett was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a graduate of Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts. He served in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific during World War II. After he retired, Mr. Bassett was executive director for about six months of the Connecticut state division of special revenues.
He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Survivors include his wife, Diane Thomson Bassett of Falls Church; a daughter, Jill Clum of Broad Run, Virginia; a sister, Dorothy Pearsall of Morrisville, New York; and four grandchildren. Two sons predeceased him, Stephen Bassett in 1967 and William Bassett in 1993.

Diane Thomson Bassett
Diane Thomson Bassett, 76, a volunteer and homemaker, died from respiratory failure June 22 at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She lived in Falls Church.
Born in Connecticut, she married her high school sweetheart in 1949 and moved to the Washington area a decade later. A drama student in high school, Mrs. Bassett enjoyed writing poetry and singing. She volunteered for several years with the Humane Society in Falls Church. Her husband, Harold N. Bassett, died in 1995. Her son, Stephen Bassett died in 1967, and son William Bassett died in 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Jill T. Clum of Bedford, Virginia, and five granddaughters.
