Harold N. Bassett - FBI Official
Harold N. Bassett, 70, who retired in 1979 as assistant director of the FBI records management division, died of cancer September 29 at his Falls Church home. He moved to Northern Virginia about 35 years ago. Mr. Bassett began his 29 year career with the FBI as a special agent on the West Coast. He later was a personnel officer, executve assistant to the associate director and assistant director of inspection and administrative services divisions.
Mr. Bassett was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a graduate of Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts. He served in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific during World War II. After he retired, Mr. Bassett was executive director for about six months of the Connecticut state division of special revenues.
He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Survivors include his wife, Diane Thomson Bassett of Falls Church; a daughter, Jill Clum of Broad Run, Virginia; a sister, Dorothy Pearsall of Morrisville, New York; and four grandchildren. Two sons predeceased him, Stephen Bassett in 1967 and William Bassett in 1993.
