  Notes	Ralph served in World War II. They lived in Morocco and later moved to Kentland where Ralph was Deputy Sheriff and Kentland Night Watchman. Bassett, 41, city marshal and world war veteran, died suddenly of acute dilatation of the heart at his home here at 3:30 o'clock this morning shortly after returning from work. Born Jan. 17, 1894, near Morocco, he was the son of Ira and Susan Bassett. He came to Kentland six years ago. He was the first Newton county man to be inducted into service under the first draft in the world war. He served 22 months, ten overseas, with the Three Hundred and Ninth Engineers attached to the Eighty-Fourth division. He was a member of the Methodist church and took an active part in the American legion. Surviving is his widow, formerly Effei Deardurff, also a daughter, Virginia, and his mother, Mrs. Susan Bassett, of near Morocco; four brothers, Arthur and Earnest Bassett of near Morocco; Elmer, of Oklahoma, and Charles, of Gary, and a sister, Mrs. Inez Hoover, of Morocco.
