Irene P. Bassett, 1912-2002
Irene P. Bassett, 90, formerly of Ottawa, died Monday, Oct. 14, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
A memorial service will be held in Ottawa later. Aycock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bassett was born March 11, 1912, in Fargo, ND. She married Dr. T. Robert of Philadelphia, Pa., on Sept. 7, 1935.. She worked as registered nurse in Minneapolis, Minn., Baltimore, Md., Bethlehem, Pa., Beruit, Lebanon and Orange, N.J., where she retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in 1982.
While living in Ottawa, she was a member of the Ottawa Women's Club and First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Richard of Palm Beach Gardens; three daughters, Ruth (Munzer) Afifi of Fresno, Calif., Kathy (Dr. German) Gonzalo of Ottawa and Martha (Dr. Thomas) DuHamel of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Eleanor (Earle) Rinker of Roseville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Ralph; two brothers, Ray and Edwin Piper; and a sister, Edna Hans.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church or deTornyay Center for Healthy Aging at the University of Washington School of Nursing in Seattle.
