      Georgetown - Joe Ben Bass, 72, died Tuesday.
      Born in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Charley Baxter and Ellen Cribb Bass. He was a member of Winyah Lodge 40, A.F.M., and Order of the Eastern Star, Winyah Chapter 148. Mr. Bass retired as woodyard foremen from International Paper Company with 35 years of service.
      Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Mae Tompkins Bass of Georgetown; two sons, James B. and Larry J. Bass of Columbia; two daughters, Mrs. Doris B. McLeod and Mrs. Faye B. Parrish of Orlando, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Helen B. Powers, Mrs. Lucille B. Tyler and Mrs. Gennie B. Cameron of Hemingway; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
      Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
      Mayer Funeral Home is in charge.
