Helen Bassett named Academic All-American
The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Helen Bassett had been named a Collegiate Academic All-American. The USAA has established the Academic All-American Collegiate program in order to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The Academic All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or better grade point average. Only scholars selected by a secondary school instructor, counselor, or other qualified sponsor are accepted. These scholars are also eligible for other awards given by the USAA. These are awards few students can ever hope to atain. Helen, who attends Louisiana Tech, was nominated for this National Award by Dr. Dallas Lutes head of the Dept. of Botany and Bacteriology. Helen's biography will appear in the Academic All-American Scholar Directory, published nationally. "Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in American's history. Certainly United States Achievement Acadmey award winners should be congratulated and appreciated for their dedication to excellence and achievement," said Dr. George Stevens, Executive Director of the United States Achievement Academy. The Academy selects Academic All-American Collegiate Scholars upon the exclusive recommendation of professors, instructors, deans or other qualified sponsors. Once awarded, the students may be recognized by the USAA for other honors. Helen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Poole of Ansley and the niece of R.E. Crowe of Ruston.
