Ronald Bassett
Ronald Bassett of Granger, Ind., died Sunday, March 13, 2005.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Hickey Funeral Home,
17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635, with the Rev. Daniel Scheid
assistant pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger officiating.
Entombment will follow the services in Riverview Cemetery.
Ronald was born Feb. 26, 1911, in Wisconsin Rapids. He graduated from Lawrence
College, Appleton, in 1932 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and attended Harvard
Business School from 1933 to 1934. He was employed by Hardware Mutual Casualty
Co., and worked between Minnesota and North and South Dakota. In 1938, he was
transferred to Chicago, where he met and married Margaret Ferry on Feb. 26,
1939.
In 1945, Ron moved his family to South Bend, where he was American Mutu
Branch manager. In 1947, Ron joined Bath Insurance Agency and became executive
vice president. He retired in 1984 at the age of 73. Ron showed Tenness
Walker horses for five years and stopped when he was 75 years old. Ron was an
avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and snowmobiling. Ron
lived in Granger for the past 34 years.
His survivors include daughters, Tami (Thomas) Greenwell, Nancy (Dr. Melvin)
Liszkowski, Margo (Peter) Mason and Sachan Bassett; sons, Thomas and Robert
(Jolyne); 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, on Aug. 22, 1993; and his son,
Ronald Jr. (Char) on Feb. 22, 2004.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
