Susan Bassett Bidwell
August 23, 1940 ? September 1, 2023
Susan Jane Bassett Bidwell of Boise, Idaho passed on September 1, 2023.
She was raised in South Britain, Connecticut by her parents, Henry and Dorothy Bassett. She attended The University of Connecticut where she received a BA in English in 1961. She then made the first of many moves by getting a job with the federal government in Washington, DC. It was here that she met her future husband Richard Bidwell, whom she married in 1965. Throughout her life she was never afraid to relocate, and subsequently made her home in Germany, Australia, various parts of Virginia, and finally Idaho.
Susan was driven to find aesthetic perfection in every part of her life. She used this artistic bent and studied photography for almost 40 years, first using her family as subjects. After too much fidgeting from them, she finally settled on the abstract still life as her focus. While living in Roanoke, Virginia, she became involved with the Market Gallery which gave her a chance to display her work and meet fellow artists. In addition to photography, she was a voracious reader, excellent cook and bread baker, and a lover of cinema, often saying the movie theatre was her church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tom Reding of Boise, Idaho; daughter Anne Bidwell and son-in-law, Ryan Lasater of Alameda, California; her sister Sally McClure of East Berlin, Connecticut, and her sister Nancy Bassett of Iowa.
The family wishes to thank St Luke's Hospice, caregiver Gudrun, and Home Instead, caregiver Susan.
