Battina Bass
Bettina Hinton Bass passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 from heart failure. She was born on May 8, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Machir Bass; her parents, Col. John Hinton and Betty Fitts Hinton; brother Col. John Hinton; and sister Nancy Hinton Russell.
Bettina is survived by all five of her children: Betty Bass Hall; Martha Bass Abernethy; Dorsey Machir Bass (Katherine); Sally Bass Witkowski (Doug); and Nancy Hinton Bass.
She also is survived by grandchildren: Svea Ann Hall; Geoffrey Peterson Hall (Beverly); Bettina Hall Johnson (Austin); Sara Katherine Woodson Abernethy (Christopher Borreson); Patricia Bass; Martha Moss (Sophie); Dorsey Bass III; Sarah Witkowski (Daniel Regueira); and Douglas Witkowski; and 9 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Columbia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Calvary Episcopal Church, 123 South 9th Street, Columbia, Missouri calvaryninth.org). or the Boone County Historical Society, 3801 Ponderosa Street, Columbia, MO 65201.
