  Notes	Marlin Remington Bassett, Jr. Find-a-Grave Marlin Remington Bassett, Jr. Age 84 of Fisher Rd., Warsaw died at his home under hospice care. He was born in Warsaw, son of the late Marlin R., Sr. and Mabel Calkins Bassett. In his youth he was a member of the Youth Corps, a branch of the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped make improvements at the Warsaw Village Park. He was a model plane enthusiast and was a founding member of the Warsaw Flying Club. A WWII veteran in the Army Air Force where he flew single and multiple engine aircraft & crewed on B 17 bombers as armorer, togeleer and left waist gunner. He trained on improved targeting and control systems on B 29 bombers. He purchased and ran the Model Clothing store in Warsaw until his retirement in 1973. He was a respected and active member of the Warsaw downtown merchant community for 34 years. He was an avid and accomplished competitive marksman; in early years with muzzle loaders and black powder flintlocks and later in bench rest precision shooting & single shot rifles. He became a tool and dye maker with Almor Corp in Warsaw from 1972-78 and was employed at Mallory Timers Co. in Warsaw from 1978-86. He was a member of the Walter Klein Post 532 American Legion in Warsaw for 63 years, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Assn., National Rifle Assn. and American Single Shot Rifle Assn. He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie Fisher Bassett in 2003. Married on October 15, 1948. Surviving are his children: David A. (Jean) Bassett of Silver Spring, MD; Douglas K. Bassett of Warsaw, Roger L. (Debbie) Bassett of Silver Springs, NY; Beverly J. (Charles Hatcher) Bassett of Wheaton, MD; his sister, Jean Capizzi, Angelica; his grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late D.J. Wright.
