William H. Bass
Georgetown - Funeral services for William H. (Doc) Bass, 63, prominent resident and community leader, took place yesterday at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Georgetown County with the Reverend N.H. Cribb and the Reverend J.M. Kirkland officiating.
Burial, directed by the Morris Funeral Home, was in Good Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Bass died Monday in a Charleston hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident which occurred near his home in the Rose Hill section of Georgetown County January 25.
Mr. Bass was a son of the late Charlie B. Bass and Mrs. Ellen Cribb Bass of the Cravers Bay Community where he was born and spent his early life.
Most of adult life was spent in the Choppee section of Georgetown County where he farmed. In addition to his farming interests, he was associated with the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company from which he retired in January, 1963, after 32 years of service.
Mr. Bass was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and teacher of the Young Peoples Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lessie Goude Bass; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Olga) Woodward, Mrs. Emory (Audrey) Johnson, both of Route 3, Georgetown; four sons, Floyd Bass of Georgetown, Bill Bass of Georgetown and Hemingway, Ronnie Bass of Route 3, Georgetown, and Donnie Bass of Hemingway.
Also, four sisters, Mrs. Itly W. Powers, Mrs. Otto Pope, Mrs. Moyd Tyler and Mrs. Manning M. Cameron, all of Hemingway; two brothers, James Dave Bass and Joe Ben Bass, both of Georgetown, and five grandchildren.
