Mark W. Bass

Age 74, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Mark was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on October 11, 1950, the son of the late William B. and Thelma E. (Lehman) Bass. He was part of the first graduating class from Portage Northern High School who attended all four years in the new high school. Mark attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He was an accomplished musician and could play many instruments, including piano, guitar and all percussion instruments, but was most skilled at playing drums. From the time he was in high school, Mark played in numerous bands of all different music genres and occasionally with his dad. During the late ?70s and early ?80s, he also traveled with a couple different Roll and Roll bands. Mark played with the Kalamazoo Concert Band for more than 30 years and sometimes did sound effects for All Ears Radio Theatre. On April 24, 1976, he married the former Lisa C. Bruce, who survives. Mark is also survived by his sister, Julie (David) Burkett; nephew, William (Shelly) Burkett; niece, Molly Burkett and great-nephews, Micah and Simon Burkett. A memorial service to celebrate Mark?s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Interment will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park - South. Memorial contributions in Mark?s memory may be given to the Portage Northern High School Music Program or a music program of one?s choice.
