William B. Bassett, 89, reverend and Fort Eustis retiree
Reverend William B. Bassett died on Sept. 30, 2013, at Walter Reed Convalescent Center, Gloucester.
Rev. Bassett received a certificate of Theology from Virginia Union University in Richmond on June 5, 1992. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, he retired from the Transportation Department at Fort Eustis.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Bassett; his parents, Lillie Elliott Bassett and Bolden Bassett of Barhamsville; a son, William S. Bassett; and eight siblings.
Surviving Rev. Bassett are his daughter, Leona B. Burrell; son, Richard Bassett; sister, Frances Wake; brother, Deacon Enoch Bassett; sisters-in-law, Bessie Williams and Gertrude Bassett; grand-daughters, Catherine Farley (Scott), Andrea Swann (Gerard) and Altheia D. Bassett; grandsons, Toissant and Adrian Bassett; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.
Services for Rev. Bassett will be held at noon on Monday Oct. 7, 2013, in Whiting?s Chapel with the Rev. Morris Randall officiating. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home by 11:45 a.m. on Monday.
