September 17, 2002 Nathan R. Bassett, New Haven attorney Nathan R. Bassett of Woodbridge died August 31. He was the widower of Vivienne L. Bassett. Born in New Haven, he was a graduate of Scranton Street School. He won the City Medal in 8th grade for his essay on the principles of the American Revolution. A graduate of Hillhouse High School, he graduated from Yale University in 1931 and was president of the Yale Banking Club. He graduated Yale Law School in 1934. He served as a judge advocate in the military during World War II. He practiced law for more than 60 years and was honored by the New Haven and Connecticut Bar Associations. He was president of the Jewish Democratic Club, president of Horeb Lodge #25 in 1938 and first commander of the Jewish War Veterans-WWII. He is survived by a son, Jeff London; a daughter, Patricia Holmquist; and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven, 360 Amity Road, Woodbridge, 06525. The Robert E. Shure Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
