A former captain of Lumberton Fire Department, he retired after 18 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Declan Bass. He is survived by his wife Florene Bass of the home; one son, James Michael Bass and wife Paula of Lumberton; three grandchildren: Annika Bass, Layna Bass, and Quinlyn Bass; a sister, Linda Davis of Raleigh; and a very special friend, Garvin Oliver. A time of visitation will take place on Thursday, July 6, 2017, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
