Nelson Bessette Dies at Malone Monday Morning
Nelson Bessette, one of our best known and highly respected residents, died at the Alice Hyde Hospital at Malone on Monday morning after an illness of several months. Prior to this Mr. Bessette always enjoyed excellent health.
The deceased was a native of Malone a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bessette. In his younger days he was employed by the New York Central Railroad as foreman at the time the railroad was laid from Remsen, N.Y., to Malone. In 1902 he gave up railroad activities and with his family moved to Chatequgay where he followed the occupation of farming until his retirement a few years ago.
Mr. Bessette was united in marriage in 1879 to Miss Clarinda Labarge and to this union ten children were born, two died in infancy, and William W. Bessette died on June 30, 1935. Mrs. Bessette passed away in 1928.
The survivors include four daughters and three sons: Mr. Fred (Sadie) Sancomb, of Malone; Mrs. William (Eldera) McGarr, of Portland, Me.; Mrs. Dewey (Marion) Barrows, of Windsor, Vt.; Mrs. Donald (Lucy) Waite, of Springfield, Mass.; Nelson, of Chateaugay; Bert, of Pyrites; and Norman, at Malone; one sister, Mrs. David Wood, of Malone; also 34 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
During his residence here he made many warm friends by his splendid traits of character and his death is sincerely mourned.
Funeral services were held at Notre Dame Church in Malone on Wednesday morning and interment was made in Notre Dame cemetery.
