Elizabeth (Betty) Freestone Bassette
Elizabeth (Betty) Freestone Bassette, 100 of Interlaken, died Thursday March 27, 2014 at the home of her son Fred in Honeoye Falls. Mrs. Bassette was born in Interlaken on June 25, 1913 a daughter of the late Fred J. and Susan Batsford Wilson Freestone. She graduated from Interlaken High School in 1930 and from Cornell University in 1934 (Home Economics). After college she worked as a matron in a children's home in Ithaca. She worked for the Farm Security Administration for 10 years, and Cornell Cooperative Extension until she married in 1950. Mrs. Bassette was a member of the Interlaken Reformed Church since 1926 and was a lifelong member of the National Grange. She is survived by two sons John of Baltimore MD., and Fred (Pamela) Bassette of Honeoye Falls; her grandchildren, Danny, Joshua and Noah Bassette and Adele (Nathan) Lubansky; her great-grandchildren Peter, Lydia and George Lubansky; and a nephew Freestone Wilson. She was predeceased by her husband, Myron W. Bassette Jr.; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth; sisters, Dorothy Freestone Wilson, Esther Freestone, and Eleanor Freestone; and a niece, Suanna Wilson. Betty was a godly Christian woman with a deeply warm and compassionate heart, a blessing and inspiration to all who met her and knew her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. After her husband's death, her family and the church were the centers of her life. She devotedly served in the Interlaken Reformed Church Caring and Sharing prayer group, and was blessed by and blessed many people with her loving and caring ways. Friends may call on Saturday March 29, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Hurlbut Funeral Home Main Street Interlaken. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Interlaken Reformed Church with Rev. Jason Faulkerson officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery Interlaken. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Interlaken Reformed Church.
