- Genevieve Rivaldo Bassett graduated from the Benjamin Franklin High School and the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. She worked for Shuron Optical Company, Hawkeye (a branch of Kodak) and at Stromburg Carlson.

Phoenix, AZ.: Genevieve Rivaldo Bassett, 91, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2015 in Phoenix, Arizona. Gen was born January 3, 1924 in Rochester, NY to Natale and Ethel Rivaldo. In 1948, she married the love of her life, William Brainard Bassett, Jr., a career U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. As a military couple, Bill and Gen traveled extensively from one assignment to another, including several stateside and two overseas (Japan and Spain). In 1970 they settled in Phoenix, Arizona. During WWII Gen worked at Shuron Optical in Rochester, NY preparing lenses for military weapons. Later she worked at Eastman Kodak. Gen's true passion in life was as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Known for her selfless generosity and compassion, Gen often took in stray dogs and cats and found them a good home. Neighborhood children cherished her and gathered at her home to swim. Doctors, receptionists, mail carriers, financial planners, beauticians, neighbors and many more were gifted with Gen's homemade culinary creations. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, eleven of her twelve siblings, and her grandson Robert Andrew Bassett. Gen is survived by her children, William Brainard Bassett III and spouse Connie Bean Bassett; daughter Bonnie Lee Bassett Hazewski and spouse Joseph John Hazewski; daughter Carol Ann Bassett, granddaughter Tiffany Ann Bassett, great granddaughter Lily Marie West, sister Louise Rivaldo Martorana, many nieces and nephews, and several surrogate children. Her ashes will be inurned next to her husband's at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital For Children.
