Harold Arnold Koch
Harry Arnold Koch of Pomroy Township, Brook Park, died on Sunday, Feb. 11 at
St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth. He was 80 years old.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1927, at home in Pomroy Township, Kanabec County, to
William and Florence (Hermanson) Koch. He attended District 31 country school
through the eighth grade and worked on the family farm that was homesteaded by
his grandparents.
In 1949 he was united in marriage to Delores Bassett and in a short time took
over the family farm, which remained his passion throughout his life. To them
were born three children. During his lifetime he was involved in dairy
production and later beef cattle and growing the crops to feed them. He was
always very inventive when it came to finding a quicker or easier way to get
the job done.
He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his sweet tooth.
He enjoyed deer hunting every year with Albert Foust.
He was a supervisor on the Pomroy Township Board for many years and a fire
warden for 25 years. He was confirmed and married at St. John's Lutheran
Church at Kroschel and remained a lifelong member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Florence Koch; a
sister, Laura Knudsen.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Delores of rural Brook Park;
daughters, Elaine Alderink and husband Gary of Brook Park and Harriet Soumula
and husband Richard of Duluth; son Wayne Koch of Mora; seven grandchildren,
Julie Alderink (Troy) Fasching, Kristen Nolan (Chad), April Alderink (Shane
Rothstein), Jessi Rakness (Jared), Jon Soumala (Charice), Jamie Koch
(Kassandra), and Kimberly Koch; seven great grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah,
Hunter, Emma, Zander, David and Kyle; one brother, Elmer Koch of Blaine; plus
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 17 at St. John's Lutheran Church
in Kroschel. The Rev. Michael Breach officiated. Music was provided by Katie
Williams and members of St. John's Choir.
Pallbearers were Jamie Koch, Jon Soumala, Jared Rakness, Troy Fasching, Chad
Nolan and Shane Rothstein.
Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
Arrangements were by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral and Cremation Servic
Mora.
