Robert Kenneth Pickens (Picture included)
Robert Kenneth Pickens, 88, died in Roseburg, Oregon at the home of his daughter Vera Carson on September 10, 2015.
Robert was born May 28, 1927 in Riverside, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Phyllis Rae (Bassett) Pickens, his daughter Rana Daynette Pickens, and his great granddaughter, Kaitlynn Elizabeth Pickens and great grandson Gavin Michael Pickens.
He is survived by his sisters Emma Boales of Anderson, California, Mary Hogate of Walla Walla, Washington, Myrtle Hammon of Oracle, Arizona, Lilyan Davenport of Grass Valley, California, his brother Ray Pickens of Chehalis, Washington and his brother Tom Pickens of Grass Valley, California. He is also survived by his six children, daughter Trudy Sullo of Centralia, Washington, daughter Kathy Baum of Vancouver, Washington, son Kenneth Pickens husband of Gaylene Pickens of Laureldale, Pennsylvania, son Richard Pickens husband of Bonnie Pickens of Anderson, California, daughter Vera Carson wife of Darrel Carson of Roseburg, Oregon, and daughter Lacey Hall wife of Leonard Hall of Redding, California, twenty grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Robert was very active in his church, serving God and other people was his most treasured talent, he loved all people. He was a brick mason contractor for more than 30 years before going to Redding Adventist Jr. Academy as head of maintenance, retiring in 1997 after spending more than 20 years service. He was instrumental in the building of several of the buildings on the Academy campus, He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved being able to hike and see the beautiful scenery that God had provided for him and sometimes camping out for the whole summer while working on jobs away from home. He was a devoted family man and loved being around family all the time. He will truly be missed.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the near future and will be announced as the time gets closer. It will be held at the Redding Seventh-Day Adventist Church and will officiated by his grandson Ben Carson of Roseburg, Oregon and Pastor Kris Widmer.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Redding Seventh-Day Adventist Church for the advancement of children's education.
