Phyllis Rae Pickens (Bassett)
Phyllis Rae (Bassett) Pickens, 77, died at Mercy Medical Center on September
27, 2009,
Phyllis was born August 10, 1932 in Long Beach, CA.
She is survived by her devoted husband Robert, of 60 years, Her sister Sharon
Nims of Keno, OR, her daughters Trudy Sullo of Roxbourgh PA., Kathy Baum of
Vancouver WA, Vera Carson of Alturas CA, and Lacey Hall of Redding, her sons
Kenneth Pickens of New Tripoli, PA, and Richard Pickens of Anderson, CA.
twenty two grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, and five great
great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Margret Bassett, H
sister Carol Hartwick, her daughter Rana Daynette Pickens, and her great grand
daughter Katilynn Elizabeth Pickens.
Phyllis was active in her community and church, raising numerous foster
children and a past member of the H.E.L.P. and A.T.T.I.C Organizations and a
past member of the local P.T.A. She taught Tiny Tots Sabbath School, and was
active in Vacation Bible School. She was a stay at home mom but enjoyed
coordinating weddings and preparing flower arrangements for friends and
family.
A Memorial Service and celebration of life will be held Friday, October 2,
2009 at 1 p.m., at the Redding Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2828 Eureka Way
Redding, CA. officiated by her grandson Pastor Benjamin Carson of Provo, Utah,
and Pastor Kris Widmer.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Redding Seventh-day Adventist
Church for the advancement of children's education.
