Dr. Archer Bryan Bass, 77, former pastor of Court Street Baptist Church, died Tuesday at 4:10 p.m. in a Portsmouth hospital. A native of Halifax County, Dr. Bass was a son of William A. and Mrs. Susan Davenport Bass. He lived at 107 Sweetbriar Circle, Norfolk County. He lived in the Portsmouth area 22 years and was pastor of Court Street Baptist Church 19 years. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Mary Webb Bass; a step-daughter, Mrs. Thomas W. Beck Jr. of Falls Church; a stepson, Dr. Thomas H. Webb of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Chaney of Southern Pines, N.C.; and five grandchildren. The body was taken to Snellings Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in Court Street Baptist Church Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m.
