Walter Bassett, 70 Retired Sales Representative
A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. Joseph's Church,
Needham, for Walter H. Bassett, a retired sales representative for Columbia
Broadcasting Systems Records. Mr. Bassett died Friday of a heart attack in his
Needham home. He was 70. Mr. Bassett sold records to radio stations and stores
for more than 20 years, retiring in 1979. During World War II, he served as a
sergeant in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the Needham American Legion
Post, the Needham Veterans of Foreign Wars Manson H. Carter Post 2498, and was
a board member of the Needham Community Council. He was also a volunteer for
the Glover Memorial Hospital "Lifeline". Mr. Bassett was a founding member of
the Great Plain Square dancers in Needham. He was also a Needham Town Meeting
member for 25 years and was an usher at St. Joseph's Church. Mr. Bassett
leaves his son, Walter H. Jr. of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Joan Mitchell of
Centerville; and two grandchildren. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery,
Needham.
