George C. Bassett Jr.
BASSETT - George C. Jr. of Buzzards Bay died Monday, September 11, 2006 in
Wareham at the age of 79. He was the beloved husband of Mineko (Aoyama)
Bassett and the late Yasuko (Aoyama) Bassett; brother of Everett Bassett and
Dorothy Manter, both of Wareham, Ruth Ferrari of Sagamore, Elizabeth Chapman
and Mary Hodge, both of Buzzards Bay and Barbara McGinty of Kissimmee, FL.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Wednesday,
September 13th from 12 noon to 1 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 1
p.m. in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd. in Bourne.
Burial will follow in the National Cemetery of Massachusetts. Memorial
donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

George Copeland Bassett, 1926-2006
George Copeland Bassett, Jr., of Buzzards Bay, died Monday, September 11, 2006
at Tobey Hospital in Wareham at the age of 79. He was the beloved husband of
Mineko (Aoyama) Bassett and the late Yasuko (Aoyama) Bassett. Born October 30,
1926 in Onset, he was the son of the late George C. and Gertrude (Ranso
Bassett. He was a Veteran of the Navy and Air Force, serving in WWII, Korea
and Vietnam. Mr. Bassett worked for the government for 42 years. Having served
20 years, he retired from the military in 1966 and was then employed by the US
Post Office for 22 years in both Yonkers, NY and Bourne, retiring in 1988. He
was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Retired
Enlisted Association and the Korean War Veteran's Association. He enjoy
watching sports, walking his special dogs, Rex and Prince, and spending time
with his family and friends. Besides his wife, he is survived by his brother,
Everett Bassett of Wareham; five sisters, Dorothy Manter of Wareham, Ru
Ferrari of Sagamore Elizabeth Chapman and Mary Hodge, both of Buzzards Bay and
Barbara McGinty of Kissimmee, FL and many nieces and nephews. A visitation
will be held Wednesday, September 13th from 12 noon to 1 PM with a funeral
service beginning at 1 PM in the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur
Blvd. in Bourne. Burial will follow in the VA National Cemetery of
Massachusetts. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the charity of
the donor's choice.
