CHESHIRE, Conn. - Gladys J. (Rosser) Bassett, 83, longtime resident of South
Yarmouth, died Saturday, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden following

She was the wife for 61 years to Reuben S. Bassett.

Gladys was born and raised in Williamsport, Pa., and educated at a business
college. She lived in Williamsport until joining the Coast Guard, serving her

      the Air Force overseas.

After the war, they married and settled in South Yarmouth, where Reuben was
manager of the former A&P Grocery Store for several years before he and Gladys
opened their own grocery store in South Yarmouth, which they owned and
      operated.

After attending the Evangelical Baptist Church in South Yarmouth for 12 years,
she joined in 1982 and was an active member belonging to the church choir and
also was secretary of the Women's Friendship Circle for many years.

Gladys moved to Cheshire to be closer to her granddaughter, Jennifer, a short
      time ago.

Besides her husband, Reuben, and granddaughter, Jennifer, Gladys is survived
by two daughters, Jane Pendergraft of Virginia and Rosalyn Lukasewski of
Yarmouth; and a son, Mark Bassett of Massachusetts; and nine other
