      Jack Raymond Bassett died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jeanne (Weber) Bassett to whom he was married for 58 years at the time of her death on January 2, 2013.

      Jack was born December 24, 1924 in Waterloo, NY. He was the youngest child of the late George A. and Lena M. (Boak) Bassett. He was predeceased by his sister, Emma A. Smith; and his brothers, Frederick H. and George N. Bassett.

      Jack grew up in Waterloo, NY until he joined the U.S. Marines for World War II. Jack served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II from April 1944 to October 1945, landing on Peleliu September 16, 1944. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict from September 1950 to November 1951, including the Inchon landing, September 15, 1950. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. a total of 22 years, retiring in 1966 as an Avionics Radar Technician with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E7) to provide a better life for his family.

      After retiring from the Marine Corps., Jack settled his family in Sleepy Hollow, Danbury. Jack then worked in various area companies, retiring from Perkin Elmer Corporation. Jack enjoyed retirement, traveling with his son, Mark, enjoying his only grandchild and growing tomatoes for many of his neighbors.
      Jack is survived by daughter Ellen Cote, son-in-law Ernest, grandson Eric; son Mark and Diane Monhollan and many nieces and nephews.

      Calling hours are Sunday, July 7th from 2PM to 5PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT.
      Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery after a short service at the Green Funeral Home at 11AM, Monday, July 8, 2013. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is requested.
