- Burwell?s will: ?In the name of God amen, I Burwell Bass of the county of Southampton Virginia do make this last will and testament and give my soul unto God.
I give to my son Burgess Bass 13 Negroes namely Bob, Aggie, Annis, Tim, Ned, Isaac, Manuel, Nate, George, Lydia, Rania, Judah, Lucy, to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my son Burgess as aforesaid all my lands, and all my stock of horses and cattle and hogs with all my household furniture of all kinds now in my possession, likewise all the crops of corn.
2nd Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsy Little six Negroes, namely Sarah, Tom, Annika, Sylvia, Jacob, Sam to her and her espousal.
3 Item. It is my desire that Burgess Bass my son as aforesaid do pay all my just debts of all kinds whatever that may come against my estate. And this being the real and just my last will and testament. I do hereby acknowledge the 13th day of June 1787 in the presence of Henry Ramsey Anthony Person, CHARLES BASS.
