Niles V. Bassett
NILES V. BASSETT, 83, of Leander Street, who had owned Keen Shoe Store, Johnston, for many years, died yesterday at home.
He was the husband of the late Claire (Lupoli) Bassett. Born in Providence, a son of the late Oscar and Bertha (Reynolds) Bassett, he had lived in Johnston for 20 years and in North Providence for 10 years before returning to Providence in 1980.
Mr. Bassett had been the owner of the former Dolly Keen Shoe Store in Olneyville. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Lawrence Council, and a communicant of Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, both in North Providence. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He leaves a daughter, Gina DiPetrillo of North Providence; two brothers, Oscar Bassett of North Providence and Raymond T. Bassett of Warwick; and three grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Elliot Bassett.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from B. Maceroni Funeral Home, 1381 Smith St., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 in Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, Fourth Street, North Providence. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
