Born in Salem, Mass., he lived in Glastonbury many years. He retired from Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford in 1977, having worked for many years as a machinist. He leaves his wife, Edna Birdsall Bassett; two sons and their wives, Gardiner W. and Linda Bassett of Coventry, and Mark and Tanya W. Bassett of Milford; three daughters, Judith and her husband, Alex Palmer of Columbia, Mo., Susan Deveraux of Manchester, and Elizabeth and her husband, Robert Walls of Rocky Hill. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Glastonbury United Methodist Church, Glastonbury, followed by a reception in the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Glastonbury United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 508 Manchester Road, Glastonbury, CT 06033.
