Dorothy L. Bassett Cummings, Lima
Dorothy L. Bassett Cummings, 88, died at 7:25 p.m. Feb. 10, 2011, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Jennings Township, Van Wert County to DeWitt S. and Hannah Owens Bassett, who preceded her in death. On April 5, 1947, in Lima, she married Paul C. Cummings, who died Oct. 21, 2009.
Mrs. Cummings was a 1940 graduate of Spencerville High School. She was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and its Encouragers Sunday school class. She had been the secretary to the plant manager of Lima Armature Works, where she met her husband of 62 years. She retired in 1981 as a secretary from Sheller Globe Corp., Superior Division. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and church family. She was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
Survivors include three sons, Greg (Penny) Cummings, of Wapakoneta, Mark (Patty) Cummings, of Harriman, Tenn., and Mikel (Dana) Cummings, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Jill (Greg) Winegarner, of Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Sam, Matthew, Dustin, Travis, Ashli, Grant, Ashlee, and Brent; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Richard Bassett; and a sister, Jan Van Eman.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Armentrout Funeral Home, Waynesfield. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Christian School or the Encouragers Sunday school class.
