Bassett
Thomas H. Bassett, 86, of 19133 Plum St., Venedocia, died at 9:35 a.m.
Saturday, January 10, 2004, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home following a brief
illness.
He was born November 10, 1917, in Jennings Township, Van Wert County, the son
of the late DeWitt S. and Hannah J. (Owens) Bassett. On June 2, 1949, he
married Lois Price, who died October 15, 2002.
Mr. Bassett retired from Federal-Mogul Corp. in 1982 and was a lifelong
farmer. He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church in Venedocia and
graduated from Spencerville High School in 1935. He was a World War II
veteran, having served four years in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of
Operations. He was a member of American Legion Post 191 and Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 6772, both of Spencerville.
Survivors include a son, Thomas J. (Connie) Bassett of Van Wert; one daughter,
Linda B. (Denny) Schumm of Van Wert; a sister, Dorothy (Paul) Cummin
Lima; three grandsons, Lucas Bassett Schumm, Brian Thomas Bassett and Nathan
Michael Bassett, all of Van Wert, and one granddaughter, Bryn Catharine Schumm
of Van Wert.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Bassett, and a sister, M. Jane
Van Eman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, at Dowan
& Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, the Rev. Wendy S. Pratt officiating. Burial
will be in Venedocia Cemetery, with military graveside services will be
American Legion Post 191 and VFW Post 6772 of Spencerville.
Calling hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 12, at the funeral home.
