Graveside services for James E. Bass, 77, of Tyler, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Allison Thompson officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Bass passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, at East Texas Medical Center.He was born February 18, 1935, in Tyler to the Reverend Elton Rayford and Evaline Wells Bass.Jim was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for more than 35 years. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1953 and graduated from SMU in 1958 with a BBA business degree.Jim married the love of his life, Christine Cantwell in 1959, and lived in Dallas until returning to Tyler in 1968 to purchase Davis, Turner and Caruthers Insurance Agency, which then became Turner-Bass Associates. He was in the Air Force Reserves and was a heart transplant recipient of 14 years and six months.Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patsy Bass Gilmore.He is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 53 years, Christine; sons, Russell Murray Bass, of Tyler and his children, Brinley and Bradey, of Lindale; James Michael Bass and wife Amy and their children, Sydney and Tanner, all of Tyler; daughter, Anne Pukstys and husband Tom and their children, Luke, David and Dane, all of Chicago; brother, John Bass, of Tyler; several nephews, cousins and one great-grandson.Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
