Albert J. Bass
Albert J. Bass, son of Joseph and Marie Bass, was born in Belmont county, Ohio, Oct. 11, 1864, and passed away at his home near Derby March 11, 1954, at the age of 89 years and five months.
When a young man he came to Iowa. On Jan. 5, 1888, he was united in marriage to Minola McLaughlin. Seven children blessed this home: Jessie, Earl, Fred, Maude, Floyd, Hazel and Glen. Two preceded him in death, Fred in childhood, Hazel, Oct. 7, 1950. Also preceding him were his parents, on brother, two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
He engaged in farming in Clarke, Wayne and Lucas counties. After retiring from farming he operated a produce business in Derby and Millerton.
Early in life he was converted and united with the Presbyterian church of Derby, being a faithful member until his death, serving in the capacity of Elder as long as he was active.
Surviving him are his wife; five children, Mrs. Robert Alexander, Mrs. Otto Clarke, Earl, Floyd and Glenn; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Bass lived a long a full life keeping his interest and zest for living until he became ill early last summer. He will be sadly missed by his companion, who together had 66 years of happy married life.
