- Amy Stauffer Bassett, age 85, died April 30, 2004, at her residence in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Bassett was born May 17, 1918, in Reynoldsville, Pa., and was the daughter of the late William and Olie (Ross) Stauffer.
Amy received her nursing training from St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and her B.S. in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She moved to Silver Spring, Md. in 1961, when she married the late Ralph Salvage Bassett, who passed away in October 1990.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Stauffer and sisters, Martha S. Olejar, Miriam S. Woodring and Jane S. Strobel.
Survivors include one son, Daniel Ralph Bassett and his wife, Nancy, of Port Republic, Va.; one stepdaughter, Linda Bassett Schaye and her husband, Barry, of Chicago, Ill.; three stepsons, David Walston Bassett and his wife, Lisa, of Lagunitas, Calif., James Walter Bassett and our dear friend, Jean Ross of Winchester, Va., Everett John Bassett of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Lydia Stauffer Burroughs of Bethesda, Md.; and nine grandchildren, Vita, Somerset, Alexandra, Joshua, Benjamin, Anna, Meave, Christopher and Nathaniel.
Amy was active in the Methodist and United Methodist churches throughout her life, especially the United Methodist Women. She and Ralph were also active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Stephens City, Va. She was most recently a member of Otterbein UMC in Harrisonburg.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Glen Langston and the Rev. Robert Haley at the Otterbein Methodist Church in Harrisonburg on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at 3 p.m. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to RMH Hospice, 235 Cantrell Avenue, Harrisonburg, Virginia 22801 or to the United Methodist Committee on Relief, payable to Va. Conf. UMC, P.O. Box 1719, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060.
