      ERNEST BASSETT SUCCUMBS IN OKLAHOMA

Earnest Sylvester Bassett, son of Ira and Susan Bassett was born near Morocco August 25, 1890 and departed this life in the Wesley hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, May 7, 1949, being 58 years 8 months and 12 days of age.
The most of his life was spent in this community. In 1945 he obtained employment in the steel mills of Gary and remained there three years. His health had been failing him for three years so last November he went to Haud, Oklahoma, for a change of climate and to spend the winter with his brother, Elmer, and family.
Earnest was very kind hearted and his friendly disposition won him friends from all with whom he came in contact. His friendly disposition was made more impressive by his acceptance of the Lord as his personal Savior during his stay in Oklahoma.
During his sickness while in his brother's home he received the best of care and attention. When his condition became so severe that he could no longer be cared for at home he was placed in the Wesley hospital where his brother, Elmer, remained devotedly by his bedside until the very last. All medical aid and loving care that was possible was given him.
Earnest was preceded in death by both parents, one sister Mertie who died in infancy; and one brother, Ralph, who passed away in 1935.
Those surviving to mourn their loss are : Three brothers, Arthur of Hammond, Charles of Gary, Elmer of Maud, Okla, one sister, Mrs. Inez Hoover of near Mt. Ayr; several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Gilbert M. Proffitt officiating and burial was in the Oakland cemetery.
