CHARLES NATHAN BASSETT - A successful realtor while still in college, Charles Nathan "Bud" Bassett of Oklahoma City has sold over five hundred and fifty homes since opening his real estate office in 1946. He is very active in the work of his city's real estate board and served as its vice president for two years.
He is the son of James I. Bassett who was born in Texas but came to Elk City in the 1890s and in 1910 to Oklahoma City, where he was in the real estate and investment business. His wife was Pearl (McGuire) Bassett, a native of Kansas, and their son, Charles Nathan Bassett, was born in Oklahoma City, March 10, 1919. Graduating from Classen High School there in 1937, he attended Oklahoma City University for a year and was enrolled in the University of Oklahoma when he entered the Army on December 1, 1941, for service in World War II. First assigned to the field artillery at Camp Roberts, California, he transferred to the Air Corps as an aviation cadet and received his wings as a liaison pilot in Waco, Texas. After serving at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Paris and Brownwood, Texas, he was sent to the European Theater in 1944 and won three battle stars during the Italian campaign. He was discharged a staff sergeant with pilot rating in the fall of 1945 and took flight instructoins for six months to qualify for a liecnese as a Civil Aeronautics Administration flight instructor. In June 1946 he re-entered the University of Oklahoma, commuting daily for two years until graduating with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1948. In the meantime, he had already established adn excellent reputation in the real estate business and has continued to provide high quality services in the years since. During 1953 he served as president of the Multi-List Service and has been chairman for the National Institute of Real Estate Brokers. He is an associate member of the Oklahoma City Society of Residential Appraisers and a deacon in the Presbyterian Church.
He married Faye Annett Ousler, a native of Davis, in Little Rock, Arkansas, April 25, 1943, and they have four children: 1. Charlene Faye 2. Linda Sue 3. Barbara Ann 4. Charles Nathan, Jr.

Charles N. (Bud) Bassett
Charles N. (Bud) Bassett, businessman, church leader, family man, died June 16, 2004 following a brief illness. Born March 10, 1919 in Oklahoma City, he attended Classen High Schook, was a liaison pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, then graduated from OU. He founded C. "Bud" Realty in 1946 and belonged to the city, state and national Associations of Realtors for 58 years, serving as president of the Metro Board in 1959, the State Board in 1965 and was vice president of the National Board (NAREB) in 1969. He was named "Realtor of the Year" of both city and state associations and an honorary lifetime member after his retirement, and was named a "Realtor Emeritus" by the national association in 1998. He was a charter member of the OKC Independent Appraisers Assoc. of America. A lifelong member of OKC's First Presbyterian Church, he served as deacon and trustee and was currently serving as an elder and endowment trustee. Bud and his wife Faye celebrated their 61st anniversary in April. He is survived by 4 children; Charlene Bassett of Tulsa, Linda (and husband John Mokkosian) of N.H.; Barbara Bassett of Tulsa; and Charles Jr., (and wife Christine) of OKC. Grandchildren are Luke, Katie, T.J. Mokkosian; Brandon, Regan Rule; Amanda. Richard Bassett. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie, and her husband Bob Delano. He was preceded in death by his parents Pearl and Ira, and J.I., brother. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Sat. June 19, First Presbyterian Church OKC. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the church.
