He was born August 2, 1913 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1978, coming from Maryland. Mr. Bassett was a veteran of World War II having served with the 8th Air Force. He retired from teaching for Montgomery County Public Schools in 1976. John is survived by his son, John A. Bassett; daughter-in-law, Melinda; two grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew; brother-in-law Dean Donovan; niece Ruth Aldrich, and several great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis H. Bassett and parents, Elmer Melendy and Minna Johnson Bassett. Services will be held at a later date.
