      Gladys Capdepon Bassett, age 99, of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
      Gladys was born on April 1, 1925 in Bay St. Louis. She graduated from St. Joseph?s Academy. Gladys was a daily communicant at St. James Catholic Church. Before moving to Gulfport in 2004, she was a resident of Pascagoula for 55 years, where she was a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church and served in the Legion of Mary and Altar Society.
      She was a life member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 160 of Pascagoula for more than 60 years. Gladys was State President of the Mississippi Auxiliary in 1987 and served on the organization?s National Committee for 7 years. She served as the State Representative of the Auxiliary on the VABS Advisory Board at the Biloxi VA Medical Center being recognized by the VA Director as an Outstanding Volunteer for more that 25 years of service for more than 10,000 hours. Gladys was a member of Salon 623 of the 8 and 40 for 55 years having served as Past State Chapeau. She retired in 1973 after 32 tears as a county Administrative Officer of a USDA Federal Farm Program in Jackson County. Gladys enjoyed the many years she spent in the company of her friends playing Canasta.
      Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Lamar Bassett; parents, Henry Capdepon and Elizabeth Capdepon; sisters, Mae Higgins and Gloria Bolin; and brother, Henry Capdepon, Jr.
      Survivors include her nieces, Carol Josephs, Barbara Gay, Jeanne Welsh, Jan Hansen, and Bridget Damratoski; nephews, Henry Capdepon III, John Wesley Capdepon, and James Bolin; and 3rd and 4th generations of nieces and nephews.
      A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Bradford-O?Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. Friends may visit one-hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Bay St. Louis. Bradford-O?Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Bassett family.
