James Edward Bass
SALTILLO ? James Edward Bass, 78, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Friars Point native, he was born Jan. 16, 1935, to Cecil and Mary Katherine McCollum Bass. He was a machine operator in furniture manufacturing. He loved fishing and watching TV He was a faithful member of New Hope Full Gospel Church and especially loved going to Brotherhood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Chris Stacks officiating. Burial will be in Valley Grove Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 54 years, Dorothy Bass of Saltillo; four daughters, Brenda Wright (Randy), Julie Koon and Kathy Spencer (Jay), all of Saltillo, and Bridget Spencer (Ray) of Brewer; two sons, Kenneth Bass (Angie) and Bill
Bass (Terri), both of Saltillo; six sisters, Lee Voyles of Pontotoc, Lottie Bass and Betty Bass of Saltillo, Joyce Scroggins (Wayne) of Pontotoc, Jeanette Stacks (Forrest) of Saltillo and Glenda Kerr (Loyd) of Middleburg, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bayward Bass and Ottis Bass; and one sister, Agnes Tipton.
Pallbearers will be Nick Wright, Jacob Wright, Keith Bass, Daniel Bass, Jeffrey Bass, Justin Wright and Tyler Koon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today.
