Thelma L. Bass
Died Saturday, October 25, 2003. Thelma was born on August 13, 1920, in Wathena, KS, the daughter of Frank and Grace (Whealy) Lehman. She was a member of the Lane Boulevard United Methodist Church, where she had served as Organist/Choirmaster for 48 years. Upon graduation from college she also worked as a music and English teacher. Her higher calling though was to be a mother to her children, Julie (Pastor David) Burkett of Woodland, MI and Mark (Lisa) Bass of Kalamazoo, both of whom survive her. She is also survived by grandchildren, Bill (Shelly) Burkett of Oil City, PA and Molly Burkett of Woodland, MI; great-grandchild, Micah Burkett; sister, Betty (Donald) Stewart of Kansas City, MO; brother in law, Edward Ellis of Columbus, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Bass, and sister, Olyne Ellis. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Lane Boulevard United Methodist Church, 1914 March St. with her pastor, the Rev. James Dyke officiating. Interment at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may call on the family Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Lasting gifts in memory of Thelma may be made to the Lane Boulevard United Methodist Church.
