Joyce Marie Bass
BASS, MRS. JOYCE MARIE (PEDLER) (Formerly of Muskegon & Shelby) Joyce Marie (Pedler) Bass passed away April 24, 2006 at the age of 87 from complications due to Alzheimer's. She was born in Muskegon, MI, attended Muskegon High School, and went on to Jr. College and Western Michigan University where she graduated with a degree in education. In 1946 she married Gerrit Bass. Joyce was a vibrant member of the Shelby, MI community where she taught school for 36 years. She was a member of the library board, hospital guild, and the Shelby Congregational Church where she sang in the church choir and preformed with the hand bell choir. She was active in adult education, enjoyed knitting, spinning wool, gardening, fish aquariums, walking, biking, golfing, and skiing. Her past few years with Alzheimer's never altered her attitude. She could not speak, but always smiled, her friendly attitude capturing the love of those around her. Survived by her husband, Gerrit; children, Jean (Hal) Thomas and Gary (Jodee) Bass; four grandchildren; and brother, Jim (Jeri) Pedler. Service information to follow.
