Katherine Myers Bassett
Katherine died at home Wednesday, May 25, 2011, in Austin. Born June 1, 1923, she was taken to Mexico at 6 months by her parents who became missionaries of the Presbyterian Church.They moved to Brownsville in 1937 where she graduated from high school in 1940. After Austin College in Sherman and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond, Virginia, she married the Reverend Clarence Bassett on September 4, 1946. After mission work in Mexico, 1947-1971, they served at Faith Presbyterian Church, Brownsville 1972-1981. The Reverend Ed Robertson and First Presbyterian Church helped them adjust to U.S. ways.From 1981-1986 they were with El Buen Pastor Presbyterian Church in Austin.Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, six devoted children, 10 hard-working grandchildren, and four energetic great-grandchildren.A memorial service in Austin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, will be at Genesis Presbyterian Church, 1507 Wilshire Blvd., by Patterson Park, two blocks north of 38 1/2 St., near Airport Boulevard.
